| This strike would be a huge inconvenience for millions of new yorkers. I dont know a lot about the details but from riding the subway it seems to me like they must have too many employees that are paid too much. They clearly dont put any money into maintaining stations or trains because they look like they havent been touched in about 50 years. I think the system needs to be taken out of the hands of the city and into the hands of people who can operate it efficiently. |

I feel bad for the people who have to clean up the tunnels right next to rats and all that, but I dont think its fair to potentially ruin the holiday season for millions of people. On either side.... On the administrative side or on the workers side...
Now I think the true blame should fall to whatever asshole signed them a contract to end in Mid-December.... The next contract should be 37 or 38 months so it ends in January or February and we dont have to go through this crap again right before 2 major religious holidays. _________________ NEED A WEBSITE? id be curious to see their contract. anyone know where i can see a copy of it? i tend to believe they are either overpaid and/or there are too many of them.
i dont think public employees should be able to join a union. the economics are different and the quality of management personnel are different. 1. management of public institutions is performed by morons and involve politics 2. where the econonomic of a private company unionizing is pretty simple. if the contract is unaffordable you dont sign it. the sales have the cover the contract. with government organizations they sign an overly expensive contract they just put the burden on taxpayers. if i have to pay for their idiocy as a taxpayer i want a talented group of people managing the negotiations. |

" Train operators, station agents and cleaners earn between $47,000 and $55,000 a year before overtime."
Look at that! Cleaners making between 47-55k!!! morons pushing brooms around keeping the subways filthy are earning that much money and they have the nerve to strike. i think mta management should be shot for letting them have that deal and now they want more? they should be fined, jailed and replaced immediately. |

you are right they are over paid bastards, why is it a mta worker makes almost the same amount probelly more with all the over time they get then other city employes like teachers, cops, and fire. all they do is drive a bus or train its not to hard and most dont even have a collage degree or even a hs deploma.
the mta has a ton of money because they they dont maintain the buses or subways and keep raising fares.
i wont even go on the subway its so nasty, its like walking into a 3rd world country with the bums on the ground the graffiti on the walls and trains, the "emergency phones" dont work, rats and garbage on the tracks, bums walking in to vitail transformer rooms and cutting off serivice and for that you pay $2 each way. those over paid bums should get less money _________________

im officially disgusted... there is absolutely no responsiblity felt by anyone anymore... starting pay for TWU members is more than that of cops, firefighters and teachers.
teachers worked HOW LONG again without a contract -- oh year over a year...
nypd is one of the BEST in the country yet one of the least paid in the country
fdny -- 9/11 -- need i really say more? run into freaking burning buildings and save lives... |

More importantly, the TWU members don't take their job very seriously. They couldn't care less whether their stupid poorly-timed strike totally ruins Christmas and Hanukkah or not. They think it's funny. I wouldn't be able to face my child if I were a TWU member right now. It's the most pathetic thing that I've ever seen. The Cap'n is right. They should be fired, the union leaders should be jailed, the National Guard should be brought in to run the train system until order can be restored. |

i dont understand how anyone can sympathize with them. much of the people who use the subways and buses are the people that cant afford to not be able to go to work. forget about christmas presents, they wont be able to pay rent if they cant work for too long. the transit workers who make double or triple what many new yorkers earn have a lot of nerve expecting people to be sympathetic of them. i hope very harsh action is taken against them.

| i think we are really getting screwed by both sides. has the MTA made any kind of effort to replace the striking workers? for what they pay it would not be a difficult task. |

I AGREE. THEY BOTH HAVE TO STOP LOOKING AT GOING TO THE TABLE WITH A WIN/LOSE SCENERIO... AND OPT FOR A WIN/WIN RESOLUTION. WHERE BOTH SIDES WALK AWAY WITH SOMETHING AND GIVING UP SOMETHING. |

i dont think the MTA should continue sitting at the table. i would like for them to just replace their workforce. i want the head of the MTA make a statement saying that any worker that doesnt return to work immediately will be permanently replaced. either go back to work or never come back again.
they already earn too much and have too many benefits. the MTA should have been be negotiating for reductions. |

Or come back to work again, but not as a TWU worker. Agreed. I might suggest that you're going a little overboard on this in that the individual member of the TWU have little choice but to do what their Union tells them. They should simply be offered employment directly for the MTA. Get rid of the TWU it is obviously criminally irresponsible and has incompetent leadership. Unions can be busted. |
