Henry Grattan's
Henry Grattan's
(formerly Lily's Public House)
8814 3rd Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11209
Saturdays
We started our night a little late, but this was our first stop. We got in around 12:30 or so, and it was very busy, though not overly crowded. The patrons looked a little older than some other places - I'd say they ranged from mid/late 20's to 30's.
Atmosphere: Being the old Lily's, the bar was decorated nicely. A few things were new, such as the paint on the walls and the decor. For example - when you walk in, the first thing you see is knight's armor standing there to greet you. The lighting is dim, with some candles on the wall across from the bar. The music ranged from rock when we first got there to dance/hip-hop later on when the dance floor in the back opened up.
Gender Ratio: About 50/50.
Dress Code: Casual but nice.
This is probably a good place to either start or finish off your night. It was busy just about the entire time (we stopped back later on as well to end the night there). It is a nice-looking bar with a lively atmosphere, the drinks are good, and the bar offers some variety in people and music. The decor is interesting and can also spark a conversation. Overall, it's a nicer version of the typical Bay Ridge bar, though if you're just 21 it may not be your scene, since most of the crowd looked a bit older. Check it out for yourselves.
